Overview: Are your thoughts holding you captive? Author Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, such as, "I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me." But Jennie also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns. As she discovered, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. Freedom comes when we refuse to be victims to our thoughts and realize we have already been equipped with power from God to fight and win the war for our minds.
In Get Out of Your Head, Jennie takes groups on a study in Philippians, inspiring and equipping us to transform our emotions, our outlook, and even our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts. When we submit our minds to Christ, the promises and goodness of God flood our lives in remarkable ways. It starts in your head. And from there, the possibilities are endless. Natalie Pate will facilitate the conversation to follow, prayerfully deepening participants' understanding and processing of the study material and most of all, the Word of God.

- Practical Bible-reading tips shared by real people.
- Guidance for selecting easy-to-use study tools.
- Principles for Bible-reading that steer you away from confusion and misinterpretation.
Class Title: Fearless Conversation: Why Is Jesus So Radical?
Led by: Daniel Helms Class Time: 9:45-10:45 a.m. Duration: March 7 - May 30 Class Style: Group Discussion Class Composition: Adult Co-Ed Class Location: Room 206 & Zoom (click here to ask for passcode) Interested? Please complete the no-obligation interest form at the top of this page. |
Overview: Have you ever wondered why the teachings of Jesus are so radical? Is what He taught actually possible? Why does it matter? What do I do with all the hard things He said? If you’re curious about these questions, you’ll enjoy this class. Available in-person and via Zoom, we hope nothing will stop you from participating and/or sharing with a friend!
Overview: This class will be an expository (verse-by-verse) study of Paul's Letter to the Philippian Church. Paul is writing to encourage the Church to remain strong in faith and endurance during troubled times. This letter is written to help Christians know how to live out their faith during difficult days. We will explore the truths in the Book of Philippians that will enable us to be strong and encouraged during the "troubled times" we live in today.
Overview: This 8-week course will take an in-depth look at the Lord's Prayer. Class will utilize A Layman Looks at the Lord's Prayer by Phillip Keller as a resource guide, though class content will not be exclusive to this book. The goal of this course is to help participants see Jesus' teaching on prayer in a deeper way. Participants will learn of God's heavenly attributes, His good will and power in our lives, and His expectations for His children. More than a guide to prayer, the Lord's Prayer is a guide to Christian living.
Overview: In The Church Awakening, Charles R. Swindoll discusses the challenges, struggles, and priorities of the church in the 21st century. He reveals the problems inherent in the entertainment-based postmodern church and shows how a return to biblical teaching will restore its strength and impact. Now being replaced by a feel-good message instead of what Christians need to know to stand strong in a world that's lost its way, Swindoll exposes the problems and offers solutions for the postmodern evangelical church. Just as he opened readers' eyes with his bold statements in The Grace Awakening, Swindoll now explains how to reestablish the church as a life-altering experience, based on the principles of Jesus' teaching.
Overview: This course will go verse-by-verse through what's commonly known as "the Beatitudes" from Matthew 5:1-12. These verses set up the remainder of the chapter, one of Jesus' most famous sermons, the Sermon on the Mount. No textbook or course material other than your Bible is needed for this study.
Overview: In his Gospel, Luke highlighted Jesus’ great love for all people—especially Gentiles, the poor, women, social outcasts, and those labeled by society as sinners. For this reason, the Gospel of Luke has been called the “the Gospel of the underdog.” Ultimately, Luke’s Gospel is a testimony about God the Son as He took on human flesh and became the Son of Man.
As the Son of Man, Jesus walked among humanity, experienced love and hate, suffered rejection and death, and rose victoriously to offer salvation to whomever would repent, believe, and receive Him. This is the good news according to Luke—indeed a message of great joy for all people.
This class reads through the Scripture and discusses the passage in context with the time in which it was written and/or the people it was written to or for. Once its original intent has been reviewed and discussed, the class discusses how the text applies today-- what we can take away from it that strengthens our understanding and relationship with God, our ministries to others, and our daily walk.

- The Purpose of Humanity
- The Nature of Sin
- The Death of Jesus
- The Resurrection of Jesus
- The Work of the Holy Spirit

- “What are you worth?”
- “It’s our job to sow seed!”
- “Stories about the Kingdom of God are like seeds that grow”
- “How to carry out our mission and marching orders”
- “How to be a loser!”
Overview: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone to the Christian faith. In this four-week study, we will look at Luke’s writings in his Gospel and in the Book of Acts. Luke not only tells the familiar story of the women at the tomb but also tells a story that is unique to him, of two disciples who meet the risen Christ on the road to Emmaus. We finish up with Luke’s account in the Book of Acts where he describes Jesus teaching His disciples for forty days after His resurrection and then being taken up into heaven leaving His followers with a job to do. We can easily see ourselves in these stories and how it impacts our lives. If you desire a greater appreciation for the place that the risen Christ has in your faith and in your life, this class is for you.

Class Title: Kingdom Disciples
Led by: Tim Templeton Class Time: 9:45-10:45 a.m. Duration: 6 Weeks (April 11 - May 16) Class Style: Video/Group Discussion Class Composition: Adult Co-Ed Class Location: Room 103-B in-person Interested? Please complete the no-obligation interest form at the top of this page. |
Overview: Some of the last words of Christ before His ascension: “Go and make disciples…” Is this your response? “Yes! I want to obey Him… but I don’t know how.” If so, Tony Evans’ Kingdom Disciples (facilitated by Tim Templeton) will help make clearer how to BE disciples and how to MAKE disciples. Kingdom Disciples calls believers and churches back to our primary, divinely ordained responsibility to be disciples and to make disciples. Only when we take this assignment seriously will the world see heaven at work on earth. Through this Bible study, participants will learn:
- What a disciple is
- What a disciple cares about
- How to be a disciple and make disciples
- What discipleship looks like in community with other believers
- What the impact of discipleship on the world can be
Class Title: Hebrews Hall of Faith
Led by: Tom Cabaniss & Frank Plummer Class Time: 9:45-10:45 a.m. Duration: T.B.D. (Begins April 11th) Class Style: Direct Instruction Class Composition: Adult Co-Ed Class Location: Room 204 (Parlor) in-person Interested? Please complete the no-obligation interest form at the top of this page. |
Overview: The study will be on Hebrews 11 and the names of the people mentioned throughout that chapter. We'll consider each of the names and how these Old Testament characters demonstrated the meaning of faith in their lives. We will look at their beliefs and behavior and how it reflects the kind of faith that God expects of his people today. Hebrews 11 is often called the "Hall of Faith" because it celebrates the faith of people who took God at His Word and organized their lives around that central reality. The only textbook will be the Bible. Anyone looking for a deeper exploration into faith, what it means, what it is and how it is expressed, is welcomed to attend.

Overview: For parts of seven decades, Elisabeth Elliot was an influential presence in Christianity. As a prolific writer, broadcaster, speaker, she cast a shadow of faith that endures to this day. She is perhaps best known for reaching the very people who killed her missionary husband Jim Elliot, the Waodani people of Ecuador, with the gospel of Jesus Christ while modeling grace, forgiveness, and dependence upon the Lord. Her life and writings have much to say to twenty-first-century Christians who are looking for enduring truths by which to live and inspirational people whose lives are worth knowing. The class will study Elliot through her own life and words and discover lessons that will shape and form us as well. Content is appropriate for any adult of any age or life stage.
Overview: We want all parents to be able to attend one of the two mid-winter Sunday night discipleship courses being offered at First Baptist. We also understand that children are important, and meaningful care and discipleship are needed for them as well! We are delighted to offer 5 weeks of FBC-Kids for grades K-6 so that they can learn about the Lord, practice for Children's Sunday (coming up in April), and be well-cared-for while their parents attend discipleship courses of their own. It's a win-win for everyone! Kids can look forward to drama/skits, music, a devotion, and a snack.
Complementary childcare for ages 0-4 will also be offered, as needed, for any class participant. Please e-mail in advance if this service is requested.
