At Kannapolis First Baptist, we understand that the teenage years are a critical time. We find that most teens are either incredibly busy or totally bored, that most families are either currently facing a crisis or have in the recent past, and that many of the temptations that once lurked in dark corners are now readily available in our schools and even our homes. Sound at all familiar? Let me personally invite you to check out the youth ministry at First Baptist Church. We are committed to equipping parents with the tools and resources they need to disciple their children in the Way of the Lord and to creating opportunities for youth to experience God and his Word. We want you to know there are others struggling with the same things that you are, and we are here to help. Most of all, we just want the opportunity to show you that we care about you and that God cares about you.

Listed below are various opportunities for you to be a part of our youth ministry. Hope to see you soon!

WEDNESDAY

  • 5:45pm – 6:30pm
    • Hang Time
      • Hang out in the youth game room with friends and relax for a moment.  A chance to catch your breath, be in a place where you are loved, and of course show off your skills on Rock Band.  From time to time organized games or missions activities are planned.
    • Worship Leadership
      • For those who sing, play guitar, drums, etc. or simply want to learn, an opportunity is provided to get some lessons and play together for the glory of the Lord.  Participants will lead youth worship on Sunday nights as able.
        • Worship Leadership is led by Drew Parrott.
    • Christian Leadership Training
      • On occasion, leadership training for those youth who serve on the Youth Leadership Team will be offered.  Students who do not serve on the Leadership Team but are interested in developing their skills as godly leaders are invited to participate.
    • Disicipleship/Mentoring
      • Any youth, parent, or family is invited to meet with Nate individually during this time to talk.
  • 6:30pm--7:15pm
    • Ignite: Missional Study (3 Wednesdays a month)
      • A Bible study resource designed to help youth become aware of global needs and explore how personal faith and ministry intersect with real life.  Students will see examples of Christians using their gifts in service to God and to others, and students will explore ways they can get involved in helping others as part of their own faith journey.
        • Ignite will be led by Nate.
    • Becoming a Young Man/Woman of God (1 Wednesday a month-last Wednesday of the month)
      • Becoming a Young Woman of God is an eight-week study that will help young girls discover who they truly are, and help them see who they can become.  In this study, your small group of middle school girls will:
        • Know their true value and develop self-respect
        • Gain a godly perspective on body image and modesty
        • Learn to set goals and boundaries
        • Begin to understand their feelings
        • Accept who they are.
          • Becoming a Young Woman of God will be led by Jordan Forrest and Caroline Doby and assisted by Suellen Leonard.
      • Becoming a Man of God is an eight-week study that will help them discover what it really means to be a man.  In this study, you'll help guys:
        • Critically examine what they've been taught about what it means to be a man
        • Explore the rich heritage of men in the Bible
        • Discover their identity in God
          • Becoming a Young Man of God will be led by Nate.

SUNDAY

  • 9:45am-10:45am
    • Student Life Small Groups (Sunday School)
    • Each week students are challenged with the Word of God by caring and knowledgeable teachers. After a brief time of announcements and prayer, our Jr. High and Sr. High students split into two classes to dig deep into the Bible. Because we follow a six year curriculum, our students are certain to be exposed to the whole Word of God.
Here's a sample of the year-long studies offered from StudentLife Bible Study:

YEAR 1: Christ: The Life of Christ - The Basis of Faith
YEAR 2: Character: Old Testament People - Encounters with God
YEAR 3: Community: New Testament Church - The Essence of Fellowship

      • Student Life Small Groups are led by Lee Forrest, Todd Hagler, and Chris Mead.
  • 4:00pm—5:00pm
    • Youth Hand Bells Practice
      • Led by Mark Hill, Minister of Music
  • 5:00pm-5:30pm
    • Youth Supper
      • Each week a light supper is provided by the parents of our youth.
  • 5:30pm-6:30pm
    • Youth Worship
      • This hour is dedicated to giving youth an opportunity to meet with God and hear biblical teaching/preaching that speaks directly to them. Singing, prayer, games, and open dialogue are a part of every Sunday evening experience. At Youth Worship you might hear a series on the book of Romans, How to Relate to Your Parents, or When Bad Things Happen. Youth Worship is not a substitute for our church's corporate worship experience. It is a unique experience for youth to gather with their peers and seek to the Lord.
        • Youth worship is led by Nate and assisted by Daniel and Sarah Helms and Suellen Leonard.
        • This fall Nate will be teaching on the conflict between Christianity and culture, encouraging our youth to stand firm in Christ despite what the world tells them.
