Coffey Scholarship

The Coffey Scholarship was established in 1977 in memory of the late Dr. Charles C. Coffey, who served as pastor of First Baptist Church – Kannapolis, NC from 1953 until his sudden death in 1977. Dr. Coffey was an advocate for Christian education for all ages. During his years of service to our church, our Weekday Early Education program (now called the ARK) for preschoolers was established. He encouraged young people who dedicated their lives to Christian service to enroll in Baptist institutions of higher learning. He emphasized missions, locally and around the world. During the Dr. Coffey’s pastorate, our church built a four-story building addition that included expansion of our library. Books were donated from the personal library of Dr. Coffey after his death. His service to our Lord has faithfully spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through his emphasis on Christian education. First Baptist Church is committed to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ by assisting seminary and divinity students with their Christian education. Since the creation of our church in October of 1908, our mission has been to produce disciples for Christ through the Word of God, faith in Jesus Christ and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Through the establishment and continued support of the Charles C. Coffey Memorial Scholarship, First Baptist Church is committed to this mission.
